What’s PCOS again?

Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) affects about 1 in 10 women of reproductive age. In order to be diagnosed, two out of three symptoms must be present. These include:

  • increased male hormones (called androgens)
  • irregular release of eggs (aka ovulation)
  • more than 12 follicles (or cysts) on each ovary on ultrasound.
